Choosing the washing method
Europe Makine offers two ways to wash a light rail vehicle. Contact washing uses brushes laid out to the vehicle profile. High-pressure washing cleans without anything touching the body. The method is set per project, against the livery and the finish of your fleet.
Europe Makine builds both kinds of machine outside rail: brush rollovers and a six-axis touchless rollover for cars and light commercials, and brush gantries with an optional brushless high-pressure Hydrowash for liveried buses and trucks. On a rail plant, the method is drawn up for your fleet and specified per project.

Fitting a plant to a tram depot
Europe Makine draws each light rail plant to the existing running line, so the track geometry, the structure gauge, the clearances and the electrification shape the design from the start.
Modular construction lets the plant follow the road it is given. Brush and nozzle positions are placed to reach the cab ends, the roof equipment and the door recesses of your vehicles as they pass.
Water on a light rail site
Water recovery and recycling are specified into a Europe Makine rail plant from the start. They are sized against the volume of water each set uses and the discharge consent that applies to your site.
Bring the water supply details and the discharge consent to the first conversation. They set the recovery part of the specification, alongside the rolling stock and the depot road.
Questions and answers
- Can a tram be washed without brushes?
- Yes. High-pressure washing without contact is one of the two methods Europe Makine specifies for rail, chosen per project against the livery and the finish.
- Does overhead electrification change the design?
- Electrification is one of the inputs the plant is drawn to, together with track geometry, structure gauge and clearances.
- Is there a published light rail reference site?
- Europe Makine does not publish rail installations. It quotes each rail plant from the depot drawing and the set profile.
- How is a tram wash controlled?
- By PLC computer control, with automatic programs and a manual override. Attended or unattended operation is specified per project.
- What does Europe Makine need to quote a tram wash?
- The rolling stock type, set length and number of sets; the depot road with its length, clearances and electrification; the wash frequency and turnaround window; and the water supply, discharge consent and recycling requirement.
